About the Simulation
Each simulated career has exactly the specified number of hits and at bats, randomly distributed.
A slump is a span of the specified number of at bats containing no more than the specified number of hits. A streak uses the opposite criterion: at least that many hits. Overlapping spans satisfying the creria are counted as one continuous slump or streak.
The default settings model Roy Campanella's career and estimate the number of 2-for-31 slumps he might be expected to have had.
The simulation can also estimate how often a winning team suffers a severe slump over a full season. For example, the 2025 Detroit Tigers finished 87-75 (a .537 winning percentage), yet their season included a brutal 5-13 stretch. By setting Career Hits to 87, Career At Bats to 162 (the games in a season), Slump/Streak Hits to 5, and Slump/Streak At Bats to 18 (the number of games in their slump), the simulation demonstrates that such a slump is not an anomaly. Roughly half of all simulated seasons for a .537 team contain at least one 5-13 stretch due to natural variation.
